A couple shots of the inking progress for my Bluebeard comic. It’s hard to tell from the photos, but there is more ink in the second photo than the first. This comic is where much of my weekend went.

Oh, and those extra two pages in the top photo are for a toilet-themed anthology we’re doing in Studio.

Here’s another snippet from my in-progress 10-page retelling of an old French fairytale. It’s Bluebeard, by the way. I just set it in the 1940’s and made the female characters more active. This panel is from page 3.

So, this is an example of me recognizing that sometimes you have to completely abandon a few hours worth of work, stop trying to “polish a turd,” and start over—with a better plan.

In the top photo, on the left you can see my first attempt at making a cover for my mini-comic, Tough Biddies. I wanted it to look like a sweater, and it just wasn’t working. Finally I realized I needed to first make a grid (like a knitter would use to map out a design) and draw onto that.

The bottom image is the final result. Inking was much faster and easier once I had a good plan!

“I’m not sure I agree with you a hundred percent on your police work, there, Lou.”

I drew this for an in-class exercise in Inking this morning. In honor of my (and the Coen Bros’) beloved homeland, which is still, today, on May 2nd, covered in snow.* I’m really pleased with how it came out. Brush inking is the bomb.

*Well, maybe not everywhere in Minnesota is covered, but it was bad enough in my hometown (Northfield) that they had a snow day!

Here is the first panel of the first page of the 10-page comic I’m working on this term in Studio I. It’s a (feminist, noir) retelling of an old French fairytale. Pencils are done…inking is in the near future.
